Discussion
Action
Discussion of new pedestrian controls at St Luke's Shopping Mall, finally installed after long debate and a number of pedestrian fatalities. Unfortunately, some pedestrians have been observed ignoring the pedestrian controls and crossing at random, causing all sorts of problems for vehicles obeying the controls. Wondered who was monitoring this behaviour, and what can be done, decided to contact Claire.
Subsequent to the meeting an article in theAuckland City Harbour News showed that pedestrian behaviour is beingmonitored, so no action to be taken
Auckland City Annual Plan (AP) due out in draft end April 22Points we need to make are· all councils plans should fit in with ARC walking strategy· ARC AP ask about where walking fits· ACC AP ask for dedicated officer to walking· all councils Manukau, Waitakare Nth Shore need to standardise policy on Ped issues
Marie to get ACC APAndy to get ARC AP
Re any letters to the editor, any issues that arise must be responded to quickly otherwise the letter will not get published, as considered no longer topical.Decided best way to manage this situation is to show the proposed letter to one other WA member for approval, then go with it. If we wait for meetings, it's far too late.
.
Michelle to find out about placing adverts on community boards
We have the details we now need a poster
Submissions - discussion about the concept of integration" of pedestrian issues and planning into projects, decided this will be main point of all submissions. In the round of draft annual plans coming up now, many councils are considering the policy of "significance", that is,how do they rank proposals in terms of importance, as this is part of the newLocal Government Act. WA should address this in any submissions.
Kit,Robin, Andy, (anyone else interested?) to get together over submission for Auckland City Council draft annual plan. Kit to think about "significance".
Draft constitution still needed.
Robin has given one to andy
Date set for WA AGM as June 4, 7.30 pm, Grey Lynn Community Centre.
.
Suggestion that WA apply for funding from the Alternatives Funds.
We should follow this up. Could end up employing someone to do WA work?
Robin showed a Swedish pedestrian/cyclist reflector, as example of somethingWA could perhaps follow up on in future. Michelle took it away to show ARC.
.
AGM - newspaper articles- free advertisements in local tabloids, must be sent in two weeks ahead oftime, community papers, Akld City Scene, fliers- ring around- incorporation to be settled- a constitution- public stunt? would have to take place after 20th May [Ron & Marie reported via Andy thatthat they had checked with their street would be viable for a stunt, but this is nolonger the case, because their own direct action seems to be solving the problem.]- St Luke's Library, a display of pedestrian issues in the library? Problem is, thatlibrary would be perfect because of the above-mentioned new pedestrian facilities, the history of pedestrian fatalities, etc, but the library is closed for rennovation from about 20th of May.Robin to try and arrange an alternative.
.
Michelle was attending for the last time, now moving her focus onto other parts of her job. She told us of the ARC's new walking person, Royanne Kruschz, who we will hopefully meet in person along the way.
.
Andy proposed a vote of thanks, and we're all sorry to say goodbye... but hey, we enjoyed the cake!
.
Kit reported that a possible stunt for Beaumont St not a good idea.
