Letter from Claire Dixon, Road Safety Co-ordinator for Akld City, 1 Nov 2004, invited WA to attend Road Safety Funding Workshop for community groups – to plan priorities for road safety initiatives 2005. Andy attended. Of particular interest - that David Croft, from Land Transport NZ, had statistics showing that the Police put the blame on pedestrians in 80% of car/pedestrian accidents where a pedestrian is damaged.
Andy’s smiling/walking project – possible that ACC Community Support will give funding for this project.
Ron – in Nov. Marie nearly bowled by a car in a driveway along Wellesley St West. Verbal interaction followed… R&M wrote to owner of car; wrote to police. (Copies on file)
Ron – responded to NZH article Sunday Dec 5 “We’re Parking Mad”, suggested more use of public transport. (Copy on file)
General discussion of driveway/pathway issue. Decided on letter to Les Mills Gym re cars entering gym carpark and stopping on footpath.
Marie & Ron to write.
Rae – update on New North Rd/building site saga.
Letter from Robin Dunlop summarising submissions on the Gvt’s draft walking and cycling strategy “Getting There – on foot, by cycle”. Final strategy due to be released early 2005.
Andy did a submission on the Fanshawe St upgrade. He meet with Denis Mander and expressed out continuing interest in footpaths around Auckland
Andy attended Rodney Transport Strategy Key Stakeholder workshop. Main outcome, prioritised issues and “Encouraging other modes of travel”, including walking, was ranked fifth.
Andy attended Living Streets Wellington 2004 Conference. Good contacts. Andy now a committee member. Brought back good information – looks like Wgtn CC seems to be much more proactively promoting walking than ACC.
Robin to write letter to Wgtn CC asking for approximate total $ spent on all maps, etc.
No meeting in January 2005
