The Draft Walking & Cycling Strategy –submission accepted.
Andy reported on the Ponsonby Rd pedestrian survey. After some discussion it was decided that we would make an initial submission to the Western Bays Community Board (Psby Rd in their domain) and should follow up with a report on same to ACC Transport Committee, with particular emphasis on the result that supports slowing down the traffic, say, a 40km zone.
Next Western Bays CB meeting is 17th March at 6:30 GLCC. Andy and other will appear to present the survey
Ponsonby Rd is rumoured to get more pedestrian refuges
Andy rang Traffic Engineer Mandar Bhide and they are on the Minor Safety works due in the period June 2004/2005.
Issue of no walking signs on city streets, Kit will write to LTSA, etc, for information/action, after we hear back from Claire about this issue.
Kit waits for a rely from Claire Dixon
Graeme reported back on the issue of a local walkway (Sackville/Westmoreland St) adjoining industrial area now being used for development for a department building. Developer smashed up the walkway. None of the usual protection put in place. Who monitors this? How to deal with it?
No change but the route is still walkable.
Bridget reported a shipping container was blocking a footpath. The council did nothing for 10days saying they could not move it incase they damaged it and were liable. The owner finally moved it.Construction sites also block paths with trucks.. We should use embarrassment to counteract this. With construction we must approach the transport committee of the council. In the annual plan submission we need to ask for more monitoring of this when the council are made aware of it by the public.Need to reprint the 'Not on the Road' ACC brochure.
Include this in annual plan submission.Andy follow the reprint issue.
Kit and Andy reported they have both been on hedge busting expeditions. Reporting of cutting hedges that fill the footpaths
All to keep reporting blocked paths
Graeme reported St Lukes development that had tunnel trenches for cars now does not. Pedestrian permeability should be retained. Not large blocks that stope access. With the increase of gated communities around public reserves this could be a problem.
Annual plan submission. Need to highlightWalkway connectivityClear walkwaysWalkways and developers and pedestrian permeability
Graeme , Bridget
State Highway 20 and the Manaku foreshore. Bridget showed us maps of the area. We are losing more beaches
Kit will write a letter
We need to purse incorporation

Community Road Safety programme funding.Kit suggested a 'keep the paths clear' project. Vegetation on paths stops the blind, prams, wheelchairs.
Marie will continue to attend the workshop to develop the idea
