The Draft Walking & Cyling Strategy – stil haven’t heard back whether our submision accepted.

ARC has publicly advertised that they are looking for public representatives with expertise in certain areas to sit on the Akld Regional Land Transport Committee. After some debate, Kit put up a motion “That we make application as a group to have a representative on the committee, that we endorse Andy as a candidate and support Graeme in his candidacy.” Motion supported by all, seconded by Marie.
Ron/Marie will attend. Robin possibly can.
Fort Street has had signs placed on parking sign poles. They are about chest height and Andy is getting the council to lower then. He has already removed some dangerous ones
Andy
Andy reported that a new walking-for-exercise group had called themselves Walk Auciland. He approached them about the clash of names, and they agreed to change their name.
Andy: reported on sending in reports to police on dangerous driving. Robin also do this.
Andy reported on the Ponsonby Rd pedestrian survey. After some discussion it was decided that we would make an initial submission to the Western Bays Community Board (Psby Rd in their domain) and should follow up with a report on same to ACC Transport Committee, with particular emphasis on the result that supports slowing down the traffic, say, a 40km zone.
Next Western Bays CB meeting is approx 17th March. Andy to contact Mike Gidde, the ward manager, at ACC, to arrange to speak in public forum and present report.
Kit reported back on our submission to Foreshore policy.
Issue of no walking signs on city streets, Kit will write to LTSA, etc, for information/action, after we hear back from Claire about this issue.
Kit
Debate over public access to waterfront.
Robin to write to ACC in support of area remaining public.
Graeme reported back on the issue of a local walkway (Sackville/Westmoreland St) adjoining industrial area now being used for development for a department building. Developer smashed up the walkway. None of the usual protection put in place. Who monitors this? How to deal with it?
Graeme to follow up.
Karen attended tonight as an observer for her group, the Association of Blind Citizens. Walk Akld welcomes her and offer our support and we will try to work on shared issues together. Karen’s suggestion in this regard, that we think first about schools.
Bridget discussed the issues Maungakiekie CB have vis-ŕ-vis the impact of SH20 on access for pedestrians and others to various public spaces, including the foreshore, and associated facilities. Unhappy with recent ACC report identifying few significant environmental features. Could Walk Auckland support a quality walkway in the affected area? It was agreed that we could.
Kit to draft short letter, with copy to ACC Transport Committee, and to Transit.
Meeting closed 9.20 p.m.
Next Meetings: 4.30pm to 6.pm, Tuesday 9 March, Grey Lynn Community Centre
