Martin Dawe, Health & Safety Develpments consultant, guest at today’s meeting – pointed out that various councils see WA as a voice, "cash in on it". Martin was officially here re the ARC’s Regional Walking Strategy – they want a reference group, and he’s been contracted to form that group. A first meeting being held on Wed July 2, Martin proffered a special invite to Graeme and invited WA to put forward 2 people to attend. Kit’s comment that ARC offside with TLAs, & important that ARC’s strategy be integrated, so in light of former how can this happen. GE’s comment – more like ACC offside with all the rest. Let things follow their course. Kit suggested that Martin also invite DOC & Te Arawa Trust.
Andy & Marie to attend the July 2 meeting as mooted by Martin Dawe, re ARC Walking Strategy Reference Group.
Graeme reported back on the ACC draft annual plan hearings, notes that a few changes taken on board. i/ "significance policy" will include all parks and open spaces, permier parks and volcanic conesii/making walkways accessible in relation to issues of overhanging vegetation, etc.iii/ a number of follow-up reports were called for, including open space acquisition and replacement parkland for parkland taken by SH20.Commented on increase in urban population, greenways needed.
Kit reported back re Maungawhau – Chris Carter, Minister for the Environment visited Maungawhau – peedstrian issues include "free access" to parks seems to be inclusive vehicles as well as pedestrians. Dominance of vehicles in ACC recreation precincts. WA to be involved with recreation precincts via Scott Milne.
Claire reported that she had applied for and got money from Community Road Safety Funding. Is planning a pedestrian road safety campaign based around Ponsonby. Does WA want to get involved? Possible in a variety of ways from putting forward ideas to being active. The money needs to be spent in the next financial year.
All – ideas, suggestions for pedestrian safety projects in Ponsonby Rd, please forward to Claire Dixon, by email claire.dixon @ aucklandcity.govt.nzor phone the Auckland City Council to talk with her.
